Oh NO! I had a crazy night last night and thought that I needed to get this post up today, not last night...so I am a little behind. I am playing catch-up and hope the blog hop goes smoothly for everyone else. oops.

If you are new to my blog you don't know that I am the mother of three girls, all under the age of 5. Is that crazy or what? They definitely keep me going and there is no room for boredom in our house. No way. You absolutely would not believe some of the things we've been through with the kids this year. They are wild and silly and fun and sweet, they make me laugh, sometimes make me cry and other times make me want to pull my hair out but they are also a tremendous blessing in my life and the inspiration for most of my scrapbooking.

Are you having a fabulous summer so far? It is hard to believe that it will soon be coming to an end but we have some fun things coming in our family's future including our oldest starting kindergarden. Time passes so very quickly, doesn't it?

We wanted to share some summer favorites today so I have a couple of pages to share with you. Some of my girls' favorite things are swimming and swinging. They simply cannot get enough- I have lost count of how many trips we've taken to the park this summer but if it keeps the kids happy and gives me an opportunity to take pictures I'm all for it!!

I absolutely love love love journal spots and doodling on my alphas lately. It's quite a simple thing but adds a little handmade extra to a page or card. This paper was originally 12x12 but I cut it down to make the page you see here. Don't be afraid to cut into your papers and try something new. I kept this page simpler than my typical style to keep the focus on the pictures and to show that you don't have to do lots of techniques and throw on lots of product for a page to look cute.

Oh, I just thought to tell you that I pulled out some of my old scallop edge scissors to use on the left side of the strip of wallet photos. It's very subtle but a fun/cute thing to do with pictures.

Something else I like to do on my pages and cards is paper pleating. You can see that here on my "Swim Fun" page above. Pleating has become quite the trendy thing to do and looks like it might be hard to do but it really isn't. Simply cut a strip of paper the length you want, crumple it up really well taking care to not rip it too much (a few little tears are okay if you like the distressed look). Ink the edges if you want to or leave them plain. It looks cute either way! Then all you need to do is randomly pleat the paper and glue in place. Don't worry about measuring and being real accurate- I think it looks best when I make the folds completely random. You can stitch over this, use staples, use a lace or other trim on one edge, it's up to you. But, isn't it cute?! And ever-so-easy. Really.

Card Wednesday!!!

I would like to thank those of you who have inspired me to make more cards. I don't think of myself as a great card maker but know many of you who are so very talented in this area. THANK YOU!!!

Here are a few new cards I've made- three of which feature the "Me Likey" journal spot stickers from Sassafras Lass and the other one uses scalloped paper from My Mind's Eye.



These three are quite simple- some cardstock, Sassafras Lass stickers, some letter stickers(I used some blue ones from October Afternoon, brown chipboard ones from Basic Grey, and white and grey Thickers from American Crafts) , black pen and ink (since I'm not very good at just leaving the edges clean), a few little embellishments (Sassafras Lass), staples and some American Crafts stitched ribbon.

These scalloped edges are from a 12x12 sheet of patterned paper. I'd cut the paper down to make an 8 1/2 x 11 page and these are my scraps. I decided to layer them and added some doodling and Stickles glitter glue. The cute white trim is from Hobby Lobby and the ribbon from Michael's. Oh, and i used one of those cute little journal spots that I love from Jillibean Soup, stamps from American Crafts and some blue bling from Hero Arts.

Sketch Monday...for real this time

Well, it is late but finally here...the sketch and corresponding layout for today.

First, though, I wanted to tell you ladies thank you for your well-wishes. Matt was nice enough to take the two older kids to his parents' house for a little while this afternoon and I was able to get this page done.

I have to be fast because Matt is upstairs waiting for me so that we can watch the finale of a certain reality show that ends tonight...

I started out planning to do an 8 1/2 x 11 page per the sketch and ended up with a 12x12. It's kinda fun that the sketches are adaptable that way.

I used some of the cute new Sassafras Lass Me Likey collection for this Sarah page and lots of American Crafts Thickers. You know what? Me likey :)

sketch Monday

I will have a new sketch up later today. I haven't had a chance to do much the last few days with Matt working graveyard shifts all last week and having to sleep all day. To put it mildly, the girls have been a little bit high maintenance lately and I need a break from everything. Just put me in a padded room and let me scream. I think that might help this morning, I just feel a little on edge and the kids are grumpy and not cooperating and Matt is asleep again...has to for a while today and then we get to have him back. I will be so happy when that time comes.

Right now I'm just grumpy and as I look around my house there is so much to do...

I'll bring happy, peppy, scrappy Becky back later but for now I need to find her. I think she's just very tired...

Webster's Pages

I can remember the first time I was introduced to the loveliness of Webster's Pages- it was in a kit from My Scrapbook Nook. I pulled the papers out of the box and while I was amazed at how beautiful the colors and patterns were I had no idea where to start in terms of using them to scrapbook. They were so pretty I didn't want to cut into them and mess them up, even though I had two of each sheet in my kit.

Have you ever felt that way before? Do you think that's silly?

Anyway, the Webster's Pages papers practically beg for you to cut out the intricate designs and after a while of hemming and hawing I decided to dig in and just cut and play and loved the result. I have since purchased another kit with more WP products (the Sweet as Cherry Pie paper that I used on some 4th of July pages that I showed you here) and just got some in the mail the other day.


This time, however, I jumped right in with both feet as they say and quickly made a page that I really quite like. That's a miracle considering the way I've felt about some of my other recent work! So, here you go...a Hailey page with the beautiful Webster's Pages. the flowers on the top and bottom were handcut from some of the patterned paper, as were the little butterflies. It's hard to tell from this picture but I added some Stickles glitter glue, too, to spice things up a little. The little flowers are from Prima (courtesy of my August Scrapbook Nook kit, and the trims as well). Oh, and the letter stickers are foam Thickers from American Crafts. I can't seem do many pages without my Thickers.

This picture was taken during our trip to Aurora, Colorado about a month and a half ago.

I don't have any pictures of new layouts to show you quite yet today...I did one page last night and am almost done with another and as soon as those are both completed I'll take some pictures and share with you what I have been up to.

For now, though, I'll simply share a few new pictures with you :)

I hope you're having a wonderful Saturday. We went to Lowes and built helicopters- if you haven't done this at your local Lowe's or Home Depot store yet, check it out. Home Depot has a free project for kids the first Saturday of the month and our Lowes has two projects a month- completely free- and the kids get their own aprons and get to earn a patch/badge for each project completed. The projects are pretty simple, the nail holes pre-drilled, everything can be completed in about a half hour and the kids LOVE it. I wish I'd taken pictures but I was with the three girls on my own building these little helicopters and Aimee wasn't exactly cooperative the whole time. I was lucky to get out of there with only one broken propellar.

Simple Friday #2

I love the idea of making simpler scrapbook pages so that I can make more productive use of my scrapping time. I liked last week's page but it was a little too simple for me since I really had to restrain myself to just using those few products and it was HARD!! This week's page is still relatively simple but a little more my style.

I pulled some Bo Bunny Alyssa paper from my stash, paired it with some recycled paper that I had sitting around, added a couple wallet-sized photos, a journal spot (also Bo Bunny)and a few embellishments, added my title and did a little doodling and voila! Still simple but not so plain.

I hope you have a great weekend! I'm off to play at the park with the kiddos and some family here visiting (yay! we're so excited to see Jamie, Zach and little Rachel) so I may not be on again today. I do have some great new pics of the girls I want to share with you but perhaps I can just put them on a layout tonight because I'll be scrapping for sure!!!

my treats from Jillibean Soup & more stuff

Remember how I won the Jillibean Soup Bean Chase?

I got my package the other day and it was LOTS of fun stuff. Paper and stamps and ribbon and journal spots, even some of the new calendar spots.

And, since Matt is working strange hours this week I stayed up and made a new scrapbook page and card. I am so proud of myself for digging into my old stash to make these!

I made this card using paper from My Mind's Eye, rub-on from the Basic Grey Lime Rickey collection, button from Making Memories, brads from American Crafts, Stickles glitter glue and some miscellaneous trims.

This, of course, is Sarah. One of her favorite things to do is swing on the swings and the higher the better. I love the excited expression on her face.

Isn't this birdie paper cute? It's from the BG Lime Rickey collection, too. I also used some older My Mind's Eye and Prima paper scraps, stickers from Creative Imaginations, button from Sassafras Lass, American Crafts Thickers and a journal spot from Jillibean Soup.

The girls decided this morning that they would water the garden...only it was in Sarah's room. They spread their pretend food out on the floor and proceeded to dump bucket after bucket of water on the carpet. So, I need to go try and soak that up with the carpet cleaner.

a couple more cards

The sky cleared for a few minutes, long enough at least, to get some pictures of these other two cards. It has been raining almost nonstop today and I LOVE it.

The first one is quite simple and uses papers from Cherry Arte, courtesy of the July kit from AC Bailey. I especially love that cute charcoal pinstriped paper :) Add some tiny alphas, button and flower from Making Memories and some twine and call it good!

This second one features stamps and June Bug paper from Basic Grey. I colored in the images (not a pro at this at all, and I don't know any fancy techniques yet) and I added some bling for the eyes- Kaiser Craft pearls for the boy and Hero Arts blue rhinestones for the girl. I also added some Crystal Stickles glitter glue to the little heart.

Aren't they such a cute little couple?

Card Wednesday

I am having so much fun making cards lately. I think it's partly because I haven't been very happy with my layouts and making a card is much less to tackle than a whole page.

Sketch Monday!

I don't know about you but when I get stuck on a scrapbook page and don't know what to do next, or sometimes even where to start, I head for inspiration from a sketch. Whether I follow the sketch exactly (not too often) or simply use it as a jumping off point for my page, sketches always my creativity going.

So, today I am going to introduce Sketch Monday. Each week I will try to post a sketch for a card or layout along with a project using the sketch. Most of these sketches will be pretty simple and easy to adapt to your own style and tastes. And, because I don't have any fancy programs to draw the sketches they will mostly be hand-drawn.

Here is your first sketch! It doesn't look to fancy but makes for a quick and easy page.

Here is the page I created to go along with the sketch. The papers are from K&Co. and the journal spot from October Afternoon, alphas are American Crafts Thickers and the lace is from Webster's Pages. And, that's my little Aimee. Cutie, isn't she?

how about some Lemonade?

I am not sure where my scrapbooking mojo is hiding but I am pretty sure it's made its way to Australia or some other far-off place. I say Australia because I've recently introduced my kids to "Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day" book and am so glad that they LOVED it as much as I do. It's such a great book, and good for a laugh when you're having a not-so-great day. The main character thinks that things would be better if he just moved to Australia.

Like I was saying, though, I have been trying to scrap lately and am just not that excited about the pages I've been making. Perhaps it's that old pressure thing, trying to create a fantastic page every time and it's just not happening. At all.

Maybe I need to go to Australia.

Because I have this beautiful Scrapbook Nook kit with the gorgeous Basic Grey Lemonade paper I decided yesterday to play a little bit and while I am okay with what I made I am nowhere near being crazy about the pages. I will share them with you anyway and you can tell me what I can do to make them look better. How's that?

These are all pictures from our trip to the park the other day.

For this first page with pictures of Hailey playing with her shadow I used the back of one of the BG Lemonade die-cut doily papers and cut strips from one of the pieces of patterned paper. I mounted the Lemonade alpha stickers on the blue paper in the collection, cut them out and doodled with my white gel pen over each letter. After that I added some Stickels glitter glue as well. I used some Lemonade chipboard pieces and rub-ons as well.

This piece of paper is one of my favorites from the Lemonade collection so I wanted to use it with these cute pics of my cute girls. I used a bit of lace and a leftover scrap from the pink doily paper as a border on the right side of the page. The words are Maya Road chipboard which I inked with a lovely blue glitter pen included in our Nook kit. I added some little rhinestones also. Pretty simple.

The Prima flowers in the kit are actually a little bit larger but since I didn't want them to overwhelm the chipboard I was going to mount them on I trimmed off the outer petals. The tiny alphabet stickers are some of my favorite alphas, and they are from Making Memories.

my three girls

We spent some time at a local park this morning, one that the girls absolutely love. It has a HUGE wooden fort with lots of climbing up and down and slides and twists and turns and it also has swings, rock and rope climbing as well as miniature little houses and other things to climb on. The girls love it.

I love that they are able to run and around and have fun.

I thought that all of the running they did would tire them out enough that they'd settle down for a nap this afternoon. No such luck. But I did get some cute pictures of the kids.

Plus we have lots of fun memories from today. So it was all worth it. Even if they don't want to rest at all so I can take a nap.

And tonight is the big pajama party!!!

The girls can't hardly contain themselves. I hope they'll go to sleep after having all of the sugarey sweet treats we bought at the store this morning. Oy.

Maybe I should go take a nap instead of scrapping these cute pictures.

Nope...gonna go scrapbook instead. I can always sleep during the movie :)

Simple Friday #1

I mentioned yesterday that I would be starting something new today...Simple Fridays!

While I love to make frilly, layered pages I would also like to be able to get more of my pictures onto pages and into albums so I need to figure out a way to make my scrapping quicker so that I can get more done. Not that I am scrapbooking "just to get it done" but I have a big basket of pictures that are just waiting to be scrapped and that pile just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I guess I just don't want some of those little moments to be forgotten.

And, no, I am not going to change my style completely, I love layers and lots of embellishments and ribbons and buttons and things but some of my pages, at least the ones for Simple Fridays, are going to be more on the simple side.

Take this page, for instance. I limited the amount of supplies I could use and kept the design about as simple as I could. I did cut these pretty butterflies out of the Jillibean Soup patterned paper but that was the most time consuming thing. All in all it took about 20 minutes to make this page. Not too bad, huh? If I could make all of my pages this quickly I'd get so much more done. Some layouts just take more time to put together. I maybe would have added more to this one but wanted to keep it nice and simple. And, the pics are just 2- 4x6 ones.

Supplies: Jillibean Soup patterned paper x 3, Cherry Arte background polka dot paper (from June AC Bailey kit), white American Crafts Thickers, black pen, staples. Oh, and my Fiskars scallop edge punch.

What are your plans for the weekend? We are having a pajama party and will be watching a movie together as a family. And, as Sarah says, "you can't have a pajama party without treats" so we're going this morning to shop for the yummiest treats we can find. The girls have been so good lately so this is our reward to them. What sweet children we have. I am so lucky.

starting tomorrow

I already told you that I am going to work on my cardmaking skills by having Card Wednesday every week. Another thing I would like to get better at is making simple, clean layouts. I love the style but can't seem to resist the urge to add "just one more thing" or two or three or five.

So, in order to get better at this, and to speed up the process of making my scrapbook pages I will be introducing Simple Fridays. Each week I will share a new layout with a simple format that is quick and easy to do. I have piles of pictures that remain unscrapped and I'd love to do something more with them than look at them sitting in a basket on my scrap table.

I'm also going to try something else...Sketch Mondays. We'll see how you like those :) I have created a few in the past and really like creating my own sketches to work from. I'm just trying to make my blog more interesting and to keep the content fresh and new.

Today I've been working on a scrapbook page that I'll share with you tomorrow. Nice and clean and simple. I hope I'll see you back here then.

introducing Card Wednesdays

One of my scrappy goals is to become a better card maker, so I am going to force myself to make more cards by commiting to show you at least one new card on Wednesdays. Won't that be fun?

I am actually excited to do this and am very happy with the way this first card turned out. It's quite simple, I used a standard-sized card base (4 1/4 x 11 folded in half) and cut the red just slightly smaller. I used a Making Memories tag and red Vintage Findings roses (love these!!) as well as a stamp from American Crafts (perfect for this tag, don't you think?) and some miscellaneous trims. I matted the tag on red cardstock, then black, then used my scallop edged scissors to give it a pretty edge. Lastly, I used foam adhesive to give the card a little more dimension.

How was your weekend? Did you get lots of rest? Do lots of scrapping? Some Relaxing? Was your weekend too short? Mine always seem to be.

I got to to a little of all of the above, except for the resting part. I just can't seem to sleep very well lately for some reason but my late nights and early mornings have given me some time to do some scrapping so I guess it all works out in the end.

One of my favorite paper collections of all-time is the Early Bird one from Cosmo Cricket and even though I got a bunch of the paper and chipboard in my June kit from My Scrapbook Nook I couldn't resist buying some more paper at my local scrap store. Isn't it just the cutest?

For this page I also pulled out some of my old Bazzill edged cardstock. I love it when I can delve into my stash and use things that have been sitting around for a while. So, I challenge YOU to go through your stash and use something you've had collecting dust in your scrap supply. If you DO this, post a link here so I can see!

Summer Limited kit and Webster's Pages

Every so often a special limited kit is put together for the members at My Scrapbook Nook. This summer the kit features papers from the "Sweet as Cherry Pie" collection by Webster's Pages. The kit was so beautiful and so very popular that it sold out incredibly fast! I'm glad I acted quickly and got one for myself. Also included in the kit is some blue Jenni Bowlin crepe paper ribbon, patriotic bingo cards and chipboard buttons as well as Basic Grey chipboard alphas.

Isn't it pretty? It sure is fun to play with, too. I tend to be intimidated by the beautiful patterns but once I start cutting into it my pages made from Webster's Pages tend to be some of my favorites. There are so many gorgeous prints and so many possibilities for fun cut work.

I had some time, or rather I MADE some time to work on some pages using the kit which was absolutely perfect for my 4th of July pictures.

Here are a couple of layouts I've put together so far using that gorgeous stuff.

I posted this picture of my mother-in-law earlier on and knew it would be perfect for using with this kit. I hope she doesn't mind y'all seeing it since she's pretty particular about pictures taken of her. I think it's lovely; she's one of the most patriotic people I know. For this page I cut and glued pieces of lots of different patterned papers, did lots of hand cut work and some machine sewing. Hooray for my machine for cooperating with me for once!!

These are pictures of my girls at the 4th of July parade held in our town. Did I say the kit was perfect for these pics? Absolutely. I mixed and matched lots of pieces of the paper on this one as well, used some American Crafts Thickers (doodled with red pen on the white ones) and added some Stickles glitter glue and some twine. The mat that the picture are on was actually the center of the paper I used for the above layout and then I used some of that Jenni Bowlin crepe paper ribbon on the right edge.

exciting news!!

I have had to keep this news a secret for a little while but can finally share!

After 3 other tries I have finally made the design team at My Scrapbook Nook!! Yippeeee!!

cupcakes for breakfast?

You would probably agree that cupcakes are not the most nutritious thing to feed your kids for breakfast. I'm with ya. I woke up earlier than the rest of the family this morning so it was Matt who ate breakfast with the kids. I'd been working on some laundry and walked into the kitchen to find Aimee eating a chocolate cupcake and Fruit Loops for breakfast. Yeah, she has been running circles this morning...literally. Tons of energy. It's been kinda fun to watch her, though, and instead of taking away her cupcake and cleaning her up I pulled out my camera.

Matt insists that the kids got the cupcakes for themselves and of course I believe him. I mean, what dad would feed his already-hyper kids cupcakes for breakfast?

As soon as she was done with what she wanted to eat it took two baths to get her cleaned up...the first one to get all of the pink frosting and chocolate crumbs off of her and the second one to actually get her clean. But, doesn't it look like she had fun?? Oh, and as she was watching the crumbs go down the drain it must have been reminiscent of her watching as the toilet flushed since she kept saying, "Bye, bye poopies." We make sure that our not-yet-two year old knows how to say the most important things. I thought her saying that was funny and I didn't want to forget it so I had to make sure and add that little tidbit in here.

Yeah, she was quite a mess...even had pink frosting in the chub of her neck. Can you see it? Getting these cute pictures was well worth her having cupcakes for breakfast.
