I had to take Aimee in to the allergy doctor this morning.
She's been breaking out in hives every so often about a half hour after she eats so we think she has a food allergy. Last week she broke out on three different days. I know I'm not imagining things.
Anyway, I expected to go there today, have the skin prick tests done and that they would tell me exactly what food Aimee was allergic to.
Instead, we sat there forever and then waited some more, they did the skin test and the only thing they could come up with is barley. Like I've said other places, I don't think it's barley. We'd have to be eating a heck of a lot of whole grain foods for it to be barley and I just don't think so.
We have to keep a detailed food diary over the next two weeks and try to figure out what the problem is, clipping labels along the way if she has a reaction. If they still can't figure it out they can do blood work or just call it idiopathic urticaria, a condition where the person breaks out in hives for no apparent reason, typically caused by an autoimmune disorder. Great. And then they'd have to figure that out.
I need some serious quiet alone time my brain is just tired today.

That is so frustrating! Nothing is worse than when the doctors don't know what they are suppose to. I hope it can be figured our quickly!
oh no! That so stinks!!! *hugs* Good luck! I'll be praying you and the Dr's can get it figured out.
Poor little Amiee! That makes life miserable for everyone. I hope that things get figured out soon so that you can totally rearrange your eting habits so that she can be comfy. Let me know if you need to talk!
so frustrating to not get any good answers. :(
Well that stinks. But, if she had a reaction to the skin prick test, then wouldn't it require only a little bit of barley for her to have a reaction? We just went to an allergist for Julia, and I got the impression that if the tested positive on the skin prick test, it was more of a "if you eat this you'll react" kind of thing. Unless it was just a tiny reaction.
I'm so sorry! That is frustrating! I break out in hives and they've never been able to figure out why either... it's very sporadic. I think that there's some sort of connection between hormones and it, since I broke out more when I was a teenager and also right after I have a baby... it's so frustrating and also really uncomfortable. I'm so sorry that your daughter is having to go through that. I hope you can figure it out quickly! (And that you get some quiet time today!)
frustrating! hope they figure out what it is soon :D
I guess that means Margie had "idiopathic urticaria" huh? I hope Aimee's issue is easier to figure out. Poor girl!
