Twilight and Forks

Are any of you Twilight fans?

I resisted for the longest time, saying I wasn't really interested in reading the books that had gotten so much hype even when other were running to Walmart as soon as the new release had come out.

It wasn't until Matt brought home a copy of the movie, "Twilight" on dvd that I'd even paid attention to it. Later we watched "New Moon" on dvd and then right before we left for our big summer road trip I bought the first couple of books since I knew we'd have MANY hours on the road and lots of time for me to read.

I whizzed through the first two books and when we stopped in Boise I picked up the third. I got the fourth from my parents on my birthday on the trip. I think I read all four books in about a month's time.

Is that sad?

You have to remember that I was spending a lot of time in the car and when I wasn't driving or refereeing fights or handing out snacks and switching out movies and books and toys I was reading. Also in the morning when I couldn't sleep or when the kids were taking naps.

The fun part was that it was on this trip that I found out that my mom was a "closet" Twilight fan. Turns out she'd read all of the books so when I suggested a trip to Forks on my birthday (my parents live only a couple of hours away in Washington) we decided to make it happen. Here are some of the pictures from our trip since I don't think I've shared them here yet. Please pardon the poor quality of some of these as they were taken from the car.

The drive to Forks. It was a little bit eery to read "Eclipse" in the car as we drove through the forests of Washington to where the story takes place. Since most of the actual movie wasn't shot in Forks, here are  some pictures of the real locations.

The visitors center in Forks

Hailey and a replica of Bella's truck

Sign in the window at the visitor center

This was in the restroom. Funny, huh?

Matt with Alice and Jacob.

With the group. Behind us there's a map where all of the visitors can mark where they're from. It's amazing to see that there are people from all over the world who've visited the tiny town of Forks, Washington because of the HUGE "Twilight" phenomenon.

At the hospital.

A shop for Twi-hards.

The high school- this is actually under construction right now and part of the school had been demolished.

Home of Jacob Black on the Quileute Indian Reservation.

First Beach in LaPush- of course we had to go there, too.

A random surfer guy. I thought it was cool that there so many people surfing even though it was SO cold.

Matt, Hailey, Sarah and my dad on a fallen tree- HUGE, huh?
My mom and I were down the beach collecting rocks with Aimee when these guys climbed up on the tree. We made them climb back up after we got there so that we could take pictures of them.

The family.

We should have stopped here for a smoothie and muffin :)

And there you have it.

My September kit from My Scrapbook Nook arrived yesterday so I'll be hard at work today to get some projects done that I can share with you. Have a great day!

When you convinced me to read the books, I half doubted that I would like them at all...but now I am thinking that I would like to have them (both the books and the movies) as part of my collection. Silly huh? If we ever make it back up to see Mom and Dad we will have to take a trip out to Forks too. (Do you think that they will mind going again?)

Ha! That was so me! I resisted them too. Didnt think I would like them at all. Like you I watched all 3 movies, 2 by video and Eclipse, in a week and then read all the books in a month. Looking forward to the last 2 movies and hoping she decides to "re-write" the story from Edward's perspective!
