a little SRM card challenge

I've recently started following the SRM Stickers blog, thanks to my friend Jen who is helping to run the show over there. This week they issued a challenge for us to make a card using the color orange as well as stickers. I use lots of stickers in my scrapping but they are mostly alphas and journal spots!

For this card I used some fun papers and stickers from American Crafts, perfect for an orange card. I also used some Queen and Co. orange pearls, my Fiskars Apron Lace border punch and some Making Memories scallop-edge gingham ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by! I'll have my Color Me Daisy projects to share with you starting tomorrow!

and the My Scrapbook Nook design team finalists are...

Can we have a drum roll, please?

Leah received 119 applications for this call proving that lots and lots of people want to be a part of the Nook. And, why not? It's friendly place to be with talent oozing from its members and kits that are more and more fabulous every month.

scrapping on my snow day and another layout for you

I have been working with the gorgeous February kit from My Scrapbook Nook and now have my kit from Color Me Daisy as well so I have the perfect excuse when I say that I NEED to scrap. I really do!! We are supposed to have our projects done as quickly as possible so the end of each month is quite busy as I prepare layouts and other projects for the new kits.

Today I decided to finish this layout I'd started. I used the outside of this black floral paper earlier in the week and today am using the rest. Isn't it pretty? I liked the print on the reverse side as well, so I cut out  the center, cut it just a little bit smaller and then mounted both pieces on this dark aqua paper- I LOVE how this color combination turned out! It's nice when things work out that way.

Everything is from the kit/add-ons except for the twine and little pearls, in case you were wondering. It's such a gorgeous kit. Leah outdoes herself every single month and over and over again I fall in love with something new.

and a little detail shot with the journaling:

Do you have big plans for this weekend? I hope you have a great one wherever you find yourself.

snow day today!!

Because we live in west Texas where we don't usually get a lot of snow I didn't think we'd ever get a snow day.

Yesterday, though, we got so much snow and the roads were so covered that they decided to let the kids out of school early. My Hailey was so excited about having more time to play. We did art projects, played, watched a movie, cleaned up a bit, read stories and topped off the night with a rousing game of Twister.

While we were eating dinner we got a call from the school saying that school would be delayed 2 hours this morning because of bad weather and road conditions. A little while later we got a call that school would be cancelled, which I know made Hailey happy. Earlier in the day she'd said that she was worried about me driving on the roads and that I should just keep her home. I'm sure it wasn't my safety she was most worried about- she wanted to play!! The poor girl doesn't get that chance very much because of school and so today we are going to play!

Maybe we'll just stay in our jammies, watch movies, do some art projects, SCRAPBOOK!, make a treat and just have a fun day. I wish that Matt had the day off, too.

What would you do with a snow day?

And, in case you need another look at the February kit here it is:

So, hop on over to the Nook to get all signed up!

Sarah cracks me up- another Nook February kit layout

I've been working away with my February Nook kit and have a few new layouts to show you but for now I'll stick to this one. I loved the black floral paper in this kit, loved its shape and so for this page I cut around the paper leaving just the frame that I used here- you'll see the rest of the paper used on another layout I'm working on, don't you worry.

For this page I wanted to showcase some of the beautiful rub-ons in the kit so I didn't use many other things except for the Woolies that go with this collection, some pearls from my stash and a bit of ink and faux stitching. I LOVED the black grid background to make these pictures POP! and decided to do my journaling straight on the paper, only it took 4-5 times over with my white gel pen for the writing to really show up the way I wanted it to. If anyone knows of a REALLY good white gel pen that does a great job on dark papers, let me know.

So, without further ado, here are the pics of my page. In these pics Sarah was making faces at herself in our bathroom mirror. Yes, it really is green, but it doesn't look too bad in real life. Here the walls seem to be glowing.

I hope you're having a great week so far. Come back tomorrow for another new page!

playing with Basic Grey

I showed you pictures of our February kit from My Scrapbook Nook and it does look gorgeous, but wait until you see it in person. It is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!I wasn't sure about the brown and yellow but the papers work so well with so many pictures that I have.

I worked last night and some this morning and got two layouts made with this kit already. I'll share this one with you today. It has the pics of Aimee and her broken arm; I used the main kit along with the alpha, chipboard shapes and journal spot add-ons.

So there you have it. Don't you agree with me that it's just a beautiful kit?

I'm going to go play some more now!

some pics of my crippled Aimee

Some of you might be curious to see what this cute girl looks like with her splint and sling, so here ya go:

She looks so sad in this picture...I think her nose looks worse than anything else.
She really is handling things quite well.

some February Color Me Daisy kit hints

My Color Me Daisy kit will be shipped to me soon and I'll have more info to share with you but for now I have a few little sneaks of some of the products included in the kit.

Looks like it's going to be a gorgeous kit! I'm such a lucky girl to be able to work with such beautiful kits!

the February kit from My Scrapbook Nook

Leah posted these pictures on the forum today so I thought I'd share them with you!

This kit, as I've mentioned before, features the new "Origins" line from Basic Grey and is filled with lots of coordinating embellisments from BG, some gorgeous ribbon, pins from Maya Road, alphas and flowers from Bella Blvd and other lovelies. The best thing about it is that it's already headed my way and should be here tomorrow!!!! Isn't it pretty?

You can get your own kit by heading over to My Scrapbook Nook.

oh what a morning

And I don't mean, "oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day," either.

We hardly slept last night because Aimee had such a rough night. I'm just grateful that Matt took her part of the time so that I could get a little bit of sleep. We each took turns sleeping on Aimee's floor.

You see, last night while I was gone to my activity at the church there was a little mishap. Matt had given the girls baths and then they were up on our bed watching a show on tv. Matt left the room to get the hair stuff and that's when it all happened. Sarah climbed up on the footboard of our bed and Aimee decided to do the same only she fell off and then complained of pain in her arm all night. She also scrubbed up her forehead, nose and upper lip when she hit the carpet.

So, I came home to hear the news and since Aimee was seemingly in so much pain I took her to the doctor this morning after dropping off Hailey at school. We saw a family practice doctor, then Aimee had to get x-rays, which she didn't like at all, then we went back to the first doctor, then got sent over to see another doctor- an orthopedic specialist in the building- and then Aimee had to get her very first (and hopefully last)splint on her left arm since she fractured her wrist. On Monday we have to go back to have the splint removed and have a cast on. For now she's resting and holding her arm in a sling. Poor sweet baby girl.

At least she got a few lollipops out of the deal.

And, I think she now understands that the splint is on her arm to keep it from hurting.

poor sweet girl.

finally something new for you!

I have actually done some scrapbooking lately but 4 of the layouts I've done are ones I'm saving to submit to the Memory Makers idea book call. Wish me luck!

I decided yesterday that I would do something that I could share with you here using one of my all-time faves- Cosmo Cricket Early Bird. This page is fairly simple except for the time it took to cut out the little flowers. Oh, the black polka dot paper is from Pink Paislee in case you were wondering, and the letters are Thickers from American Crafts. The black ones were naked chipboard that I colored black with my Copic marker. This cute girl is my 4 year old Sarah.

and a detail shot:

and a card since I haven't made any in a while!

I'm off to spend time in my daughter's kindergarten class so I'll see y'all later.

I hope you have a great day!

cute moments captured

I love my kids, love that they're silly and quirky and artsy and cute.

I love that they give in to my incessant need to take their picture.

I love that each one is so very different.

Today I have a page to share with you with pics of my youngest, Aimee, who is 2.

She has kind of a crooked smile because she still sucks her thumb even now and it's made her teeth a little bit wonky. But, you know what? I love that about her, too. I love that sometimes she closes her eyes and gives me her cute little squinty smile:

For this page I used papers from Jenni Bowlin, Basic Grey, SEI, Fancy Pants and My Mind's Eye. I also used a tag from Pink Paislee, felt flowers and journal spot from Jillibean Soup, buttons from Creative Imaginations and alphas from October Afternoon and Basic Grey.

I hope you have a great weekend!

30 minute layouts and American Crafts

Before I post a new layout today I just wanted to thank all of you who have participated in the My Scrapbook Nook blog hop so far. It's been incredible to see the response we've gotten, it's so fun to have so many people coming to visit my blog and great to have SO MANY comments. You still have until the end of the week to do the blog hop if you'd like, so head on down to the blog hop post for all the info you need!

I know that many of my blog readers love to scrapbook, and perhaps you don't have as much time to scrap as you would like. I know that's the case for me most of the time and I wish that I could scrap faster so that I could get more done in the time I DO have.

Well, guess what?? American Crafts just posted a challenge last week on their blog where we only had 30 minutes to complete a layout. 30 minutes??? I hardly ever finish this quickly so I decided to take on the challenge. I actually got two layouts done in less than 30 minutes each and will share both with you here with the first one being my entry for the contest:

This is my Aimee...one day she came to me after we'd been sorting through some things in her bedroom and she found this old Halloween costume, put it on and said, "I'm pumpkin pie!" Isn't that just the cutest thing? I had to take some pictures because I knew that it would be a fun scrapping topic and it just happened that these pics went perfectly with some American Crafts products I had on hand.

Supplies: American crafts paper, journal spots, chipboard, dimensional stickers, felt flower, foam Thickers.
Other: Fiskars Apron Lace punch, floss, adhesive pearls.

*****
The other page I also made in under 30 minutes ( I know, I can hardly believe it myself. I really need to do this more often!!) For this I used some pictures I got of Hailey the day after Christmas. It's rare for us to get snow in Lubbock so we were excited to have a TON of snow on Christmas Eve day. Hailey had a BLAST playing with it and I, of course, was right there with her to catch the action.

Materials: American Crafts paper, dimensional stickers, foam Thickers, foam flower, journal spots, paper flower. Other: Fiskars border punch, adhesive pearls.

*****

So there you have it. You don't have to spend a lot of time on a page for it to turn out cute, and I love that I was able to use some of my cute American Crafts stash for these. Anything for a chance at a Thickers prize pack, right? Wish me luck!!

p.s. in case you wonder how I got them done so fast- using  journal spots and rub-ons and ready-made embellishments really speeds things up. It takes a few seconds to do a punched border, I didn't ink anything- are you surprised???- and I really had to work like a crazy woman to get them done in time. It also helps to have a bit of a plan ahead of time as well.  It's a challenge for sure but refreshing, too, to keep things more simple and get more pages done.

and

and one more for now

I'll see y'all tomorrow. Hopefully it's warmer where you are than it is here. It's down right cold and windy and it's supposed to get to -11 overnight AND I LIVE IN TEXAS!!!

It's not supposed to get that cold here.

Homemade Treats from Color Me Daisy

Do you remember this cute kit that I showed you?
Full of Basic Grey Nook & Pantry and We R Memory Keepers Twirl and lots of adorable embellishments, it's been so fun to play with.

Here's a picture of the cute, cute kit:

At Color Me Daisy we are on a rotating schedule where we design every other month, but I end up buying the kits on my off months anyway, so here are a couple of layouts I've put together so far.

Here's my Hailey from a couple months back when the kids did their program at church. Hailey was asked to sing a solo for that program- just the first verse of a song, and she did beautifully, even as sick as she was that day. I was amazed at her poise and confidence and was so very proud of her. It brought tears to my eyes as she sang with her beautiful angelic voice. I used mostly Nook & Pantry on this one with a bit of the WRMK in the butterflies. The red gingham was cut from the stripey piece of paper from the N&P set.

Lots of layering of the little stickers and lots and lots of butterflies.
Yep, I think I love my Martha Stewart butterfly punch.

For this second layout I used some Nook & Pantry for the background and then mostly
WRMK products for the rest of the page.

I love the little Maya Road journal spots but for where I wanted to put this one on my layout the cute little owl's head was going to get cut off so I simply pulled out my kraft knife and did a little cutting.
Oh, so that you know, these pictures were taken on Thanksgiving. Sarah and I were at home celebrating the holiday because she had the stomach flu and was so-so sick. Poor girl. Later in the day I gave her a bath and she seemed to be feeling better so we took some pics of her and her little sparkly magic wand. Even when she was feeling horrible she still had a smile to share. Cute girl.

I cut the flower-shaped WRMK paper and mounted it on the cute pink polka dot Nook & Pantry, did some inking around the edges and some faux stitching. I like that such simple thing like that can make a big difference in my page. I also used my Apron Lace punch.

Here's that little owlie- I added Glossy Accents to his eyes.

And there you have it. I have to teach preschool group today but perhaps tomorrow I can do some more scrapping and have something new to share with you. Have a great day!
