that's strange

When I did that last post I chose for it to be posted on the first of April. For some reason it isn't working the way I thought it would. I guess now you just get to see my two pages a little bit early. But, you don't mind, right?

What do you think of them?

I'm almost done with the packing but it seems there are always a million and one things to do before leaving for a trip. I hope to get it all done at a decent hour so that I can get some sleep before our early departure tomorrow morning.

thumb sucker

Our Aimee is such a thumb sucker and has been since she was born. I keep thinking she'll grow out of it but that little thumb continues to be a comfort to her when she is sad or tired. She is almost a year and a half and that little finger goes right back into her mouth when she needs it most. Here is a scrapbook page I created using some October Afternoon "Weathervane" paper, a Maya Road owl, American Crafts Thickers (of course!), some handstitching and a little ribbon flower I made with a Sassafras Lass button on top. I also used a little bit of paint around the edges and in the journaling spot.

Have a great Sunday!!

a hack job

During breakfast yesterday my four year old asked why Mulan cut her hair. That should have tipped me off. That or the crazy blonde wig she was wearing. It wasn't until she removed the wig and was walking out of the room that I noticed her short ponytail and it all came together. As soon as I saw how short her hair was I stopped her, took the ponytail holder out and could see the creative haircut she'd given herself. A little cut here and a little more there, and I started to go into "but we're leaving for Disneyland on Monday" mode and while I didn't want to add another thing on my already-full "to do" list, I knew that she couldn't see the Disney princesses in her current botched haircut state. Even she said it, "Belle is going to be sad." I was a little sad, too.

So, I calmly (yes, I even impressed myself) asked her where the hair was, where the scissors were, and went in a blur up the stairs to find both under the futon in the play room. Chunks of hair everywhere, I guess she thought that if she hid the hair we wouldn't be able to notice her very obvious new hairdo.

It was early enough in the day that we just hurried and got ready and ran over to the nearest hair cutting place and were able to get right in. And, the smart salon lady who understood our plight did a beautiful job of disguising the chunky layers Hailey had cut into her hair. Isn't she still a cutie?

I kinda like the new cut, but it sadly makes her look older and I'm not quite ready for that. I think the Princesses will like her new 'do.

i missed yesterday

I was being such a good blogger but yesterday somehow slipped through the cracks. It was such a hectic, crazy, busy day and I hardly got time to sit at the computer. Stay tuned for my next post to see part of why...

lots of Thickers but no win

Remember that scrapbook page I did for the American Crafts Thickers challenge? The one where you had to use at least 3 kinds of Thickers? Well, used 19 and still no luck. Oh well...it was a fun page for me to put together and quite a challenge to squeeze all of those different fonts onto one page.

I am kind of in a funk right now...wanting to do something but I'm so tired from hardly sleeping last night. I think I'll go take a nap. The packing and laundry can wait until later when I will be more productive. Matt is watching the kids, sorta, since basketball is on, but I think now is my time to exit stage left and go to sleep. Perhaps then I will feel more like chatting.

Oh, and it's snowing again for the third or fourth time today. Crazy weather we've been having lately.

going to be a long night

It has been a rough winter for my family...one thing after another it seems. This last week the kids have been sharing a bad cold/cough and high fevers. Tonight it is Sarah's turn, and she is having quite a time of it with fevers over 103. Just like her big sister, she will be fine, and it seems the virus is running its course. Hopefully by tomorrow she will be feeling much better, but it may mean for a restless night for us.

I know that kids get sick but I sure wish we'd get a breather sometime. We're supposed to be leaving for Disneyland on Monday after all :(

and some pics from Matt's birthday

I know that some of you out there wanted to see some pictures from my husband's birthday yesterday, so here you go!

We had a great time at breakfast with his family at Cracker Barrel- yummy!!- we missed having Roxanne (Matt's brother's wife)with us but got to see his brother and baby Cody (so dang cute)-and then had a pretty quiet day at home. Matt really wanted a new lawnmower, so he went shopping and found one he really liked, put it all together and took these happy pictures and then...

...it wouldn't start. At all. Brand new and it didn't work. So, he had to take it back apart and return it to the store. Happy birthday? Not really. Poor guy. He was so excited to mow the lawn, too. At least he got to celebrate with his parents some more and had cake and ice cream and more presents later on in the day. I think that over all my silly, sweet husband had a good birthday.

Happy Birthday, sweetheart!! It was fun having you home with us all to ourselves yesterday.

one more sneak for now

Here ya go...a tiny peek of another page I made with the April kit from AC Bailey.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

a little sneak

If you love beautiful patterns and bold colors you will love the April kit from AC Bailey. Not only are the papers gorgeous, so are the embellisments included in the kit. I will be gone on the first when the kit goes live so I wanted to give you a little peek at one of the pages I made this morning.

Well, what do you think? Pretty colors? They are so gorgeous. Stay tuned for some more sneaks.

Happy Birthday to Matt

Today is my husband's birthday. He's 34 today, but I think he feels so much older, funny guy. He had to go to the doctor the other day since he's been having some foot pain and he was disheartened to hear that there was nothing that they could do to "fix" the problem, so he feels like he is falling apart. Silly man. He told me this morning that he was up until midnight last night (he didn't get home from work until 10:30)and had a mini pity party for himself, a small mid-life crisis he called it. I think he's being a little dramatic, but "it's his party and he'll cry if he wants to," right? So, I'll indulge him a little bit and make sure he has a fun day.

We went to Cracker Barrel this morning for breakfast with his family and he just got back from buying himself a new lawnmower for his birthday! So far it's been a good day for him. We'll have cake and ice cream later and whatever we decide to do since he has the day off of work.

Matt, I love you, and know that you don't often read this blog, but I hope you'll read it today. You are a wonderful husband and father, you encourage my scrapbooking and other addictions (mainly just scrapbooking, but also chocolate)and is perfect for me, patient with my grumpy days, willing to take care of the kids when I need a break.

So, Matthew Wayne, happy birthday to you. I hope it's a wonderful day.

just a quick post today

I am trying to post every day but today I just don't have anything exciting to share...we have some guys here installing a new water system since the water here is hard and undrinkable. So, they are monopolizing my house and my time when I would much rather be scrapping. I just for some reason feel the need to keep an eye on them since I don't know them at all. Call me paranoid, but, you know...

It is a beautiful day, though, and my irises are starting to bloom. So, that's happy news.

Here are some pics of my Sarah. I will lovingly refer to her as "Hose Girl." She loves to go outside and water the berry plants but most of all likes to water the fence. I guess she's hoping it will grow?

a bride on a budget

My four year old just came up to me with a monster-sized wad of toilet paper and said, "Make this into a wedding dress." Does she not realize that I have been working on her quilt since about the time we moved into this house and that was two years ago and it still sits sadly by my sewing machine? Now she wants me to make her a dress??

So that I wouldn't disappoint my daughter I went to work to make her a little wedding dress. How long did it last? Only about a minute...that darn two ply wasn't strong enough after all. I decided to give it a go with my Brawny paper towels and that did the trick! With just half of a roll of paper towels and some tape I had one happy little girl.

Some brides want yards of taffeta and lace and silk. Mine is happy with two-ply Brawny. I must say...it will come in quite handy for messy spills at lunch time. I took some pictures ( I couldn't make the dress and not take pictures, right? I've got to scrapbook this one!!!)and will post those later on. Aimee is tired of waiting for her lunch because of my kooky shenanigans. But, I am cool again to my four year old who just yesterday said she wasn't going to talk to me anymore.

Ok, here are some pictures of her beautiful gown. She asked me, "Didn't I look beautiful as a wedding girl?" She sure did. I am glad we took some pictures because not even 5 minutes later she was ripping the thing off.

Oh, and another side note...we had spaghetti for lunch which the girls had too much fun throwing on the floor, so we used the paper towels (yes, we recycled!) to clean up the mess.

Have a great day!

one more week

Yes, this time next week we will be on our way to Disneyland. The girls are beyond excited (Matt and I, too!) and are planning what they will wear to have lunch with the Princesses.

It's been more than ten years since I've been to Disneyland and much has changed I am sure. I am anxious to take in all of the sites and excitement of the park, to see the looks on my girls' faces as they experience the magic of that wonderful place.

A new layout and ribbon flowers

I am a subscriber to the monthly kits from My Scrapbook Nook and am amazed every time with the products that Leah puts together. This month's kit features papers, rub-ons, ribbon and chipboard from the "Ever After" collection by Cosmo Cricket and is paired with rhinestone buttons from Jenni Bowlin and Prima pearls and lace. It is absolutely gorgeous.

I have wanted to do better at the shabby chic style that I see so much of in the scrapbooking world and have finally created a layout in this style that I LOVE. I sat down to scrap and it just all came together so well.

On this layout I tried something that I've wanted to do for a while...ribbon flowers. They are actually quite simple and are fast to make as well. All you need is about 8" of ribbon depending on its width and how fluffy you want the flower to be. Stitch just inside the edge of the ribbon and then gather it into a circle, stitch the two edges together and you are done! That easy.

Aren't they pretty? And, so very quick and easy. I now want to add them to EVERYTHING. Seriously. You just might see more of these in layouts and cards of mine in the future.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Aren't you proud of me for blogging every day?

I finished my page today and I must say it was one of the most fun pages I've done in a while. It was a challenge to try and fit so many different types of Thickers on one page, but I succeeded and ended up with 19 different ones. Since the post title won't allow me to put as many as I need to, here is the complete list:

1. Rainboots black puffy
2. Chit Chat grapefruit, tangerine puffy
3. Playroom green felt
4. LAX powder glitter chipboard
5. Umbrella cricket puffy
6. Tinsel black foil
7. Poolside grapefruit vinyl
8. Daquiri yellow vinyl, ink foam

So, there you go. And, here's my layout with my cute Aimee and the adorable Cosmo Cricket "Girl Friday" collection.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

working on a challenge

American Crafts is holding a Thickers challenge. All you have to do is create a layout using Thickers (these are alpha stickers- made from chipboard, foam, felt, vinyl, you name it). You have to use at least three different types and already I am up to 16. I'll post my layout later today after it's all done.

Happy Saturday!

more pretty flowers

One of my favorite things about Springtime is watching the beautiful flowers pop up in my yard. I have planted crocuses, lilies, daffodils, tulips, irises and something else that is not registering in my tired brain. Here are some pictures of some of the beautiful flowers blooming in my front yard right now. They've had to weather some harsh winds lately but are still pretty to look at.

I was hoping to do some scrapbooking last night but one of my girls is sick again...had temperatures close to 103 last night and about 2:30 this morning. Perhaps that nice Disneyland air will do us all some good.

lovin' the new Pink Paislee

I love Pink Paislee scrapbooking products and the new releases are certainly beautiful! I made a quick layout yesterday with these cute pictures of Sarah. She sure likes to play with the caps to my new camera.

spring has sprung

I love this time of year when the bulbs are blooming, there are flowers on the trees, the grass is starting to green up again.

I know that this may not be the case for some of you who have been buried in snow all winter but here in Texas the days are warmer and things are starting to look so much better than the nasty brown I have had to look at the last few months. Take a look at this picture of our new Texas Whitebud tree that is waiting to be planted in our yard? Isn't it pretty?

Gotta love the new camera!

just a lazy day

Do you ever have those? Days when you just don't feel like doing a whole lot?

I had one of those today. Not that I didn't do anything because I did, just not as much as I normally might have done. I still had kids' baths, laundry and dishes to do as well as making sure the girls were fed, clean and happy but I also had some down time to do some scrapbooking and to just relax and watch a little bit of tv.

I worked on my April projects for the AC Bailey design team and also finished another page with some of the cute new Pink Paislee paper and embellishments. Stay tuned tomorrow for that one!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

I want to wish you a very happy St. Patrick's Day. I know that many of our Irish friends are eating corned beef and cabbage today and hope that you enjoy it. I am part Irish and my mom used to cook that meal for us when I was a kid. I have, however, never made it. Our celebrating goes as far as making green waffles and green scrambled eggs. Perhaps next year we'll try to be more festive.

Here are pictures of two of the girls all decked out in green to celebrate the day as well as the layout I promised yesterday. These are pics of my husband and oldest daughter when she was about a year and a half old. I can't believe how time flies. Featured on the scrapbook page is more cuteness from My Little Shoebox. I love that stuff!!

Happy St. Patty's Day!

we're having a boy!!

Monday night is family night at our house. After dinner we gather at the table and have a fun time together...a little lesson, an activity, we talk about things going on in our lives, schedule things on the calendar, etc. and it's a weekly tradition, something that I know will serve for our benefit in the future as our lives get more hectic and it becomes harder and harder to have that quality time together as a family.

Anyway, we were going through our announcements as we do, one by one, and it was my 4year old's turn. She went through the regular stuff and then announced that she was going to have a baby brother. As you can imagine, that caught us a little off guard. I am not, to my knowledge, anyway, pregnant. And, as I mentioned in an earlier post we are not quite ready for kid #4 since things are a little crazy at our house already with the three kids we have. I love them dearly, but girls are certainly emotional and it doesn't start when they're teenagers. I think they're born with it, which is funny because I don't remember my sisters and I ever being that way.

Speaking of sisters, I have 5 of them. Yes, there are 6 girls and no boys in my family. My poor dad. I am starting to get a better understanding of that. My poor husband is swimming in a pool of estrogen at our house. And, if having 6 girls isn't record-making, each of my sisters has daughters- there are 12 in all- and no grandsons until this last December when my youngest sister had a boy. So, the odds of me having a son are kinda slim. Even my husband is convinced that girls from my family have some kind of genetic dominance over the men they have married and those families can only produce girls. So, another point in my favor. I think.

I started to wonder if my daughter might know something I didn't since I know that kids are often close to heaven and its angels since they have so recently departed from there and perhaps she really does know that we are having a boy.

We started to ask her about how she knew and then, to my surprise, she told us that she was having a baby on Friday. This Friday. We went through the explanation of how it takes 9 months to have a baby but the conversation still makes me wonder if there is a little boy up in heaven waiting to come to our family. I honestly don't know what I would do...I have been surrounded by pink my whole life.

I guess we'll have to just wait and see.

And, in honor of my first-born daughter, and in honor of St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, check back for a fun new scrapbook page I made using more "My Little Shoebox" paper and other supplies.

i am trying

Yes, at times I've been a bad blogger, going days and even weeks without posting at all. So, my goal for this month is to blog every day, or at least every other day. I mentioned this to the ladies at AC Bailey and told them that if they could commit to the same thing, or at the very least blogging 5 times between now and the end of the month I would do a drawing for a little scrappy prize.

If you'd like to join us, just leave a comment here on this post.

Have a great Monday!

in honor of Pie Day

Yes, we are nerds, but yesterday we celebrated Pie Day. Well, actually "Pi" day. You know, 3.14? From math? Yes, it was my husband's idea but I think we've started a new family tradition. We had delicious chicken garlic pizza from Papa Murphy's for dinner and then pie for dessert. Yummy!!

We also celebrate "ballerina day" (2-2) thanks to Matt's dad and Star Wars Day (May the 4th as in "may the forth be with you.")Strange, I know...blame it on my husband's interesting sense of humor. But, I love him.

Sunday afternoon nap

It is such a nice idea...come home from church, eat lunch and have a nap. That's a great idea in theory anyway. I got the baby down for a nap and was going to do so myself when I heard my husband upstairs struggling with the other two girls who were obviously not going for the idea of taking a rest. So, the loving and adoring wife that I am, and knowing that he's been up since probably 5:30 this morning, I went up and told him to go take a nap in our room while I tried to get the two stinkers to go to sleep.

I got a pillow and laid down in the middle of them (since we still had the tent up) and tried and tried fruitlessly to get them to go to sleep even with promises of them getting to watch a movie if they did so. No such luck.

So, I now have a groggy, pounding head and am in need of a nap but my husband is still peacefully asleep. No nap for me, no movie for the girls and no more tent. And, my four year old has informed me that she's never going to talk to me anymore. I am not ready for teenagers and yet already feel like I have one.

I hope you're all having a great day.

My scrapbooking and My Little Shoebox

Anyone who knows me very well knows that I love to scrapbook. I mean LOVE to scrapbook. I've been scrapping in one form or another since I was in junior high school. Back then I would cut out pics of my favorite actors and musicians and glue them onto scrap paper and put them in binders and would also scrap miscellaneous pictures I had of my friends and family. I went from that to working on my high school yearbook and served as co-editor my senior year.

Thankfully my style has improved since those days and what used to just be something fun to do has turned into a necessary creative outlet for me and an escape from the stresses of being a busy stay-at-home mom of three kids aged 4 1/2, 3 and 1.

I used to try and scrap something everyday and was on quite a roll for a while this year until my family started getting sick. This page that I am about to share with you was a week in the making...not quite a record for me but at least it's finally done. While I was making pages in an hour or so before I've not had much time to scrap lately since I just haven't had the time or energy to with all the sicky stuff going on at home. I hope to get back into the groove soon but for now here are a page and a card to tide you over...

I fell in love with this cute paper and its embellishments when I saw it during the CHA sneak peeks. It's from a relatively new company called My Little Shoebox and it's ADORABLE. So fun and so perfect for scrapping my kids. They are also having a design team call, so I thought I'd give it a shot since I ADORE their product. Being on a manufacturer design team would be a dream come true for me, so I'll keep my fingers crossed knowing that there will be PLENTY of other competition. But, if I don't make it I can still play with their oh-so-cute stuff. And, by the way, if you want to get a closer look you can just click on the image.

kids in the tent

As I mentioned before, we put our tent up for the girls to sleep in last night as a reward for cleaning up their dress-up things. As soon as the tent was put together Hailey quickly started gathering blankets, books, tea party paraphernalia and whatever else she could cram in there in preparation for the night. Silly girl. She even got their little laptop computers. They were so excited about using their flashlights that are usually stowed away in our emergency kits.

It was a bit of a wild party and the girls were up quite late but they sure had a good time and are ready for another "campout" tonight. We'll see...

Here's a picture of Hailey and Sarah in the tent.

As a side note, it's been quite a rough winter for our family...just when I thought I was feeling better...I am now feeling quite nauseated once again. And, no, I don't think I'm pregnant. With our three very active girls I hardly think we are ready for #4.

it's snowing!

Yes, even where we live in West Texas we get some snow once in a while. It's funny, though, because last week we had temperatures in the 80s and today we're having rain and SNOW. Just when we think that Spring is here good ol' Mother Nature pulls a fast one on us. I don't think the kids will mind, though.

We knew it would be cold and rainy today so I told the girls that if they got their dress-up things all cleaned up I'd set up the tent for them to sleep in tonight. You can bet they worked extra hard (after some oh-so-gentle coaxing, of course)to get everything done. I should take a picture of that room...it's rare that we can even see the floor.

under construction but almost there

Yes, after some work I almost have this blog put back together. A word to the wise...make sure you save your current blog template first if you are going to make any major changes like I did. I've had to go back and add links that I had before and other things that are a little time-consuming. But, I am liking the new fresh and springy look!

I've been playing with my new camera so I'll load some new pictures of the family here later on. And, Matt has the weekend off of work, much to my surprise this morning. So, I just might get to do some scrapping! I can't hardly wait.

Have a great day!

so, what do you think?

I loved this template but for some reason couldn't get it to load on my blog so I just saved the image and at least got to use the header. The only problem I have is that I want to move the title down so that it's more centered instead of covering so much of the image at the top. If anyone knows how to do that please drop me a comment.

Have a great day!!

playing with my blog some more today** with a prize

I was getting tired of the old brown and want something more fun, so you may notice the background change from time to time. I've checked a few sites (Pyzam, the cutest blog on the block, etc.) for some ideas but would love some other suggestions for great blogger templates. Just leave a comment and I'll be sure to check it out. And, if I find the "one for me" on your site suggestion I'll send you a little scrappy gift as a thank you!

my new toy

I have been interested in photography for as long as I can remember and have had a camera since I was a kid. I wanted to take photography classes in school but for whatever reason never did. I thought I wanted to grow up and be what I called a "postcard photographer," which I guess would be a nature photographer. What fun that would be, too.

I've had all kinds of cameras from film to digital but got my first "REAL" camera the other day. Aren't tax refunds wonderful??!! I did a lot of searching online, reading on lots of photography message boards and checking the reviews on digital SLRs and finally decided on the Canon Rebel XS, which I love, even after having it for only a few days. I've shot pictures mostly on auto so far but am anxious to learn more about how to adjust the other settings to improve my photography skills. I am such an amateur but LOVE that I now have some of the tools I need to get better. And, here it is:

The kids, especially the baby, have been begging to have their picture taken. Aimee says, "mo, mo," which in her language means, "more." And, of course who can resist that, right? And, thank you, Matt, for letting me get this camera. I will have to do some quick learning before our Disneyland trip at the end of the month!!

a quick Aimee page

I had some leftovers from the AC Bailey March kit from LAST year, and they went well with the colors on Aimee's shirt so I went with it as it's ALWAYS a good thing to use up old stash to make room for all of the fun new products making their way to the scrapbook stores!!

So, here's a real quick page...nothing fancy or complicated about this one, but it's a picture I love of a girl I adore.

ready to fly

I think about my kids and how fast they are changing and growing up. I can't hardly remember the time before Hailey was born, and now can't believe that I have Sarah and Aimee and that even my baby isn't much of a baby anymore. Time just passes way too quickly.

Before I know it this year of preschool will be over for Hailey and she'll be heading off to kindergarten...all day, every day. I still don't know why they do that in Texas but do know that I will MISS her. Terribly. Probably more than she will miss me. I know it's because I am a paranoid mom, terrified of dropping my little girl off with people I don't know for a whole day at a time. I know she will be fine, that she is ready to move on to the next challenge, but I don't know if I am.

So, that's the sentiment behind this page. I covered a Jenni Bowlin chipboard butterfly with some patterned paper and added some Stickles glitter glue, then hand stitched the antennae and butterfly trail.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

fun finds at Hobby Lobby

I love this craft store...it's rare that I don't find something cute when I go to that store. Most of the time I go there for scrapbooking supplies...paper, adhesive, ribbon and other fun trims (that hemp rickrack that I love!) and yesterday's trip was no exception!!

Take a look at what I found:

Won't these be great for my scrapbook and card projects?

sick again...or still

It seems that my poor little family just can't get a break from being sick this winter. One thing after another, from colds to stomach bugs and back again. I can't even remember the last time we were all healthy, which is so sad. Now Aimee and I are sick again...her with a bad cold/cough and me with the same nasty but that I thought I got rid of a couple weeks ago. Hopefully this time it will be short-lived and I can get back into my regular non-sick routine. I've been falling behind on everything and haven't done as much scrapping as I would have liked to, especially with all of the fun new products that I have waiting in my scrap room. So sad. I just hope we're all well before we're supposed to leave for Disneyland at the end of the month!!!

I hope you're having a great day!

Cosmo Cricket Girl Friday

The "Girl Friday" collection is featured in this month's kit from AC Bailey. I love the girly cheerfulness of the papers and have had fun playing with them the last few days. Here are a few things I've put together so far.

some new pages

As I mentioned in my last post, this blog has been neglected this winter because we have been so sick! Incredible how many times we have been sick- for Thanksgiving, Christmas and various other times since then. When we think we are finally over being sick someone comes down with something else. I guess that goes along with having little kids.

With all of the sickness going around my scrapbooking time has been seriously affected but I have managed to squeeze in a few things lately. It's funny, though, that when I haven't scrapped for a while (since I used to try and do something every day) I feel like I've "forgotten" how to scrap.

Thankfully I'll have some time to practice this afternoon and get my mojo back!!

Until then, here are a few of my recent pages. Lots of Hailey and Sarah to make up for all of the Aimee pages I've been doing lately. Sarah loves to dress up in fun clothes, and this big stocking was no exception. The other Sarah page was a challenge I gave to myself to scrap something with purple, a color I tend to avoid in my scrapbooking for some reason. There's a cute one of Hailey using the new "Girl Friday collection from Cosmo Cricket and a page about Home Depot kids' days using one of my favorite paper sets, "Weathervane" from October Afternoon. Enjoy! And, thanks for stopping by my blog.
